Database Manager 12-Month Term Full-Time

What will you do?
As a Database Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our organization’s data.
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring data integrity, security, and availability while supporting the ongoing needs of various departments within the school.
This role requires a strong understanding of data management systems, data modeling, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
Essential Functions
Database Design and Implementation
Design, develop, and implement efficient data systems and schemas to meet the organization’s needs.
Work closely with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Data Integrity and Security
Implement and enforce data security protocols to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive information.
Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues related to data integrity, consistency, and access control.
Database Maintenance and Optimization
Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and optimization to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, tuning database parameters as necessary.
Data Governance and Compliance
Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
Collaborate with compliance and legal teams to address data privacy and regulatory compliance concerns.
Database Documentation and Training
Maintain comprehensive documentation of database schemas, configurations, and procedures.
Provide training and support to internal users on database usage, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical database systems.
Conduct periodic testing and simulation exercises to ensure the readiness of disaster recovery procedures.
How do you get the job?
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Database Administrator, Database Developer, or a similar role.
Proficiency in database systems such as MySQL, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of database design principles, data modeling techniques, and normalization.
Strong understanding of cloud hosted data management processes and protocols.
Familiarity with data security best practices, encryption methods, and access control mechanisms.
Experience with database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
Certifications such as Database Administrator,
Cloud-Based Database Administration, or managing databases in a virtual environment are advantageous and preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Mostly indoors with regulated temperatures
Physical Requirements o Ability to sit for long periods of time at a workstation with a computer, keyboard and mouse required.
Ability to move around campus to attend in-person meetings and collaborate with stakeholders in-person required.
Ability to occasionally lift up to fifty [50] pounds for short periods of time.
Availability to participate in an on-call rotation schedule is required. While not physically present on-campus during on-call periods, the ability to maintain accessibility using a mobile phone and/or laptop with internet connectivity and prompt response times are required
