Louisville Future of Work Initiative

Tech-nique

Alisia McClain became the Executive Director of the Louisville Future of Work Initiative in 2021. Prior to that, she served as the organization's Director of Community and Education Initiatives. 

Alisia is also the founder and executive director of TECH-Nique. This non-profit's mission is to create a world where the voices and experiences of underrepresented minorities are welcomed and celebrated in the field of technology and where members of these groups feel empowered not just to be consumers of technology, but also creators and LEADERS in the technology field.

When not working one of her day jobs, Alisia can be found taking care of her children or working on her doctoral dissertation in Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development at the University of Louisville.  Her dissertation research is centered in the socio-cultural factors that influence the participation of underrepresented groups in technology.

In this fireside chat, Alisia will talk with Joanne Harrell, who will share her experiences first in public service as former CEO of United Way of King County, then in the private sector as she worked her way up in Microsoft, to her current roles, including First Lady of Seattle. Joanne will talk about what it means to move through a career in technology with a sense of belonging, understanding that your identity and experiences bring innovation to the table. She will also talk about the importance of corporate responsibility and why it’s imperative to lean in, both within your own community and other communities, and how public-private partnerships are imperative to the future of work.
