UofL State of the Art IT Labs

Have you ever thought about how nanotechnology is transforming our world—one atom at a time? From the smartphones in our hands to the medical devices saving lives, advances in micro- and nanotechnology are everywhere. Now’s your chance to see where some of that cutting-edge innovation happens—right here at the University of Louisville!

VISITING UofL-MNTC

During your visit to UofL’s Micro/Nano Technology Center (MNTC), you'll break into two groups of 25.

  • Group 1 will meet in the Shumaker Research Building Lobby at 12:30 PM

  • Group 2 will meet in the same location at 1:15 PM

UofL Research Engineers will greet you and guide you through MNTC’s state-of-the-art research facilities. You’ll learn about the center’s history while taking a window tour of the Cleanroom Facility, and get a rare behind-the-scenes look at the critical support systems that keep the lab running. You’ll also visit the Huson Imaging & Characterization Laboratory (HICL), where you’ll have the chance to see nanoscale structures—completely invisible to the naked eye—using powerful, high-resolution imaging equipment.

Micro/Nano Technology Center (MNTC)

The MNTC at the University of Louisville is home to three core facilities:

  1. Cleanroom Facility
A $30 million, 10,000 ft² Class 100/1000 laboratory used for fabricating novel materials and devices.

  2. Huson Imaging & Characterization Laboratory (HICL)
Equipped with a suite of Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEMs) and Atomic Force Microscopes (AFMs), HICL enables both imaging and nanoscale fabrication.

  3. BioEM Laboratory
Located on the UofL Health Sciences Campus, this specialized facility supports life and medical science research with advanced imaging technologies for cross-disciplinary applications.

GROUP 2 at 12:30 will start off at the LARRI then swith to MNTC

Louisville Automation & Robotics Research Institute (LARRI) is a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, staff, and students that has a combined expertise in the emerging research areas related to automation and robotics.

LARRI has three dedicated research facilities with equipment valued at over $10M. Meet the team, the robots, and hear about the amazing work that is being done.
