The Chemical Analysis Division (CAD) accelerates innovation and improves productivity through field and lab technologies for life sciences, manufacturing, industrial and safety applications. The Applications Team drives revenue and growth within CAD by supporting sales opportunities and building customer specific solutions. As an Applications Specialist, you will be collaborating with Global and Regional Sales Managers and distributors.

What will you do?

Proposal Preparation

  • Ownership of the quotation process for gas analysis mass spectrometer products.

  • Inquiry management: collect project information and application data from customer / representative / sales team.

  • Application review and system selection: selection of correct instrument configurations based on inquiry information using technical knowledge and acting as the Thermo Fisher Scientific SME resource.

  • Mass spectrometer peak selection and measurement modeling to determine analytical feasibility, performance and required calibration gases.

  • Lead the cultivation of customer satisfaction through ensuring timely delivery of customer quotes and any resulting problem resolution.

  • Coordinate the preparation and maintenance of quote templates, application summaries, and price lists.

Sales support

  • Act as main applications support global contact for the business.

  • Serve as sales technical support via telephone, email, and meetings including some site visits.

  • Make product presentations at conferences & seminars.

  • Work with sales and marketing teams to generate sales support collateral - application briefing notes, presentations, competition briefings etc.

Applications Support

  • Participates and provides expertise to existing customers and service engineers on analysis, calibration methods, and analytical problem solving to develop and recommend changes to increase the accuracy, efficiency, and responsiveness of our systems.

Product Sales Training

  • Work with fellow team members to provide the required level of sales training for internal and external customers.

Marketing Input

  • Provide information on the market, application requirements, and competition analysis to high-level management to assist in generating market plans.

  • Support new product and applications development as well as incorporation of new technologies.

Engineering Input

  • Coordinate with product development and engineering teams on the development of hardware and software requirements.

  • Participate in new product development projects as applications authority.

Evaluation and Application Development Support

  • Work with various teams and Product Line Manager to support customer evaluations and development of new applications.

Operations Support

  • Act in a coordinating capacity to address any technical queries relating to purchase orders received, address identified issues in a timely manner.

  • Work closely with the sales order entry and manufacturing teams to facilitate smooth order fulfillment.

Educational Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent: preferably a higher degree in Science or an Engineering related field.

  • Extensive experience (at least 5 years, ideally 10 years+) in the process analyzers field including Gas Analysis mass spectrometry.

Or

  • PhD or higher-level research qualification with a background in quantitative spectroscopic technique and the desire to apply this learning in a commercial environment. At least 3 years (ideally 10 years+) relevant post-doctoral experience.

  • Domestic and International travel 20% or less of the time
